Over the past year, the music room at Kibbutz Nir Am has become much more than just a music room. For us, it is a communal, creative, and healing space; a place where children, teenagers, students, parents, adults, and senior members can meet through music, play, create, laugh, release, and simply be together for a moment.
Following the events of October 7, the evacuation period, and the complex return home, we are seeing more and more how meaningful music is as a tool for strengthening the emotional and community resilience of Nir Am. Today, the room hosts music lessons, musical gatherings, songwriting through music workshops, and additional community activities. It has become a living, breathing meeting point, connecting generations, children and adults, pain and hope.
In light of the significant impact the music room has had on the community, we have decided to take the next step and expand its activities, open it to additional groups within the community, create new projects, and establish it as a permanent community anchor. Thanks to the generous donation of Yad L’Ami, we were able to bring Avir on board as the manager of the music room.
Avir will be responsible for managing the space, accompanying the lessons and activities, maintaining the equipment, developing new initiatives, and making the music room an even more active, accessible, and meaningful space for the entire Nir Am community. We believe that having a permanent and organized manager will allow the music room to fulfill its true potential and become a place that connects people, invites creativity and encounters, and provides emotional and community support in a natural, open, and informal way.
For us, music is much more than a class or a leisure activity. Music is a tool for connection, healing, and resilience. It reaches places that words cannot always reach. It releases, calms, connects, and reminds us that even after difficult times we can still create moments of joy, life, and hope together.
